Intent

At Parkgate Infants and Nursery School, the intent of teaching Physical Education is to equip our children with the tools, knowledge and understanding required to make positive and healthy choices. We aim to provide opportunities for children to experience a range of activities allowing them to develop and build on skills as well as embed qualities such as fairness, respect, and collaboration. The PE curriculum strives to develop role models who believe that ‘Anything is Possible’ by inspiring them to see themselves in the athlete and sports stars they encounter.

Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it’ Michael Jordan

Implementation

PE at Parkgate Infants and Nursery School is taught through a combination of our class teachers and qualified sports coaches. Children are encouraged to actively participate in exercise throughout the day, at lunch and break times, involvement in the daily mile and through extra-curricular clubs. This blend of high-quality teaching prepares children for the next stage in their education by reviewing and building on skills and knowledge in a sequence, unit by unit and year on year. This ensures learning is embedded and skills are applied to different areas. The PE curriculum links with PSHE (relationships and goals), Science (parts of the body) and Music (dance). These links are referred to throughout their time at Parkgate to ensure children can apply the skills and knowledge they have been taught.
